The Student Loan Debt Counseling Grant Program was created by the 2019 Minnesota legislature to provide Minnesota-based nonprofits that are qualified in debt counseling with funds to provide individual student loan debt repayment counseling to borrowers who are Minnesota residents concerning loans obtained to attend a postsecondary institution.
In fiscal years 2024-2025, $200,000 per year of each biennium was allocated to fund the program, with no more than three percent of the appropriation to administer the program. The 2024 report includes information on the development of the SLDC grant program, fiscal year 2024-2025 program results, a complete list of funded programs, and next steps to further support students with loan debt counseling.
