A New Way to Pay for Short‑Term Career Training

Sections

Starting July 1, 2026, you may be able to receive federal financial aid for short‑term, career‑focused training programs through a new option called Workforce Pell Grants

To be considered for Minnesota Workforce Pell, student must:

  1. fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid,
  2. meet all eligibility, and
  3. be attending a participating institution.

If a student meets eligibility and is attending a participating institution, they may receive funds as part of their total financial aid package. Please note: If a student receives these funds it will not be specifically identified as "Minnesota Workforce Pell" on the financial aid offer. It will simply show up as a Pell grant.

The Minnesota Office of Higher Education will share updates as federal and state details are finalized. For more information, you can also contact your school’s financial aid office.
