2026 Inaugural Basic Needs Convening
On Monday, June 8, the Minnesota Office of Higher Education (OHE) will host a free, one-day event around planning the future of student basic needs work. The event will bring together campus and system level staff, administrators, and researchers to share best practices, new research, and critical resources related to student basic needs, financial wellness, and academic success. Participants will have the opportunity to network, provide feedback on state policy related to student basic needs, and explore opportunities related to data collection, research, and assessment.

Keynote Session “Poverty Informed Practice” presented by Chad Dull
Dr. Chad Dull challenges audiences to rethink long-held assumptions about poverty,
behavior, and responsibility. Drawing on lived experience, professional practice, and
system-level insight, he introduces a
poverty-informed approach that centers
relationships, reduces barriers, and reframes how we interpret struggle.
